PBS: QUIZ on Feedback and Diabetes Basics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRINCIPLES OF THE BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES (PBS)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Copy and paste the quiz below into a Google Doc entitled "QUIZ on Feedback and Diabetes Basics." Highlight all of the text you just pasted in and strip the formatting (teacher will demonstrate this).

Take the following quiz in your selected group. Answer each question individually and then discuss  your answer with your group. Do not move on to the next question until you reach a consensus.

To form your final answer in your Google Doc, copy and paste your selected answer option(s) together with a copy of the original question so as to form a complete and true statement. The answer phrase you pasted in should appear in bold and underlined (see example below).

When your team is finished, make sure your team lead shares his/her quiz with me for scoring.

EXAMPLE QUESTION

  • oral thiazolidinedione.
  • insulin.
  • metformin.
  • dialysis.

EXAMPLE RESPONSE

PBS: Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead Response

Take some time to reflect on the movie Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead with the following questions in mind:

  1. What was unhealthy about Joe's lifestyle before he started his juice fast?
  2. How did the fasting affect Joe's physical appearance and medical conditions?
  3. Could you stay on a juice fast as long as Joe did? What do you think would be the most difficult part? Why?
  4. Why do you think Joe lost so much weight so rapidly? Do you think this was healthy to lose so much weight in such a short period of time? Why or why not?
  5. Do you think most of the people he was encouraging to change their diets were able to do so permanently? Why do you think it is so difficult for many people to make changes to their eating habits? Try to come up with at least 3 reasons.

OK, now that you've given these questions some thought, write a response to the film in which you address the questions. Write up your response in a Google Doc file and place it in your "PBS" folder. Title it "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead Response."

Welcome Message

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! And for those that are new to the school, welcome to Willow Glen High!

This year will bring new challenges and stories. It will see the continuing development of the GROW Rams initiative and the expansion of agroecology and food education efforts on our campus, with Mr. Bursch's students leading the charge.

This website will be updated on a daily basis and is a place for students and parents to find brief summaries of each day's activities, homework assignments, and reminders for upcoming tests, projects, and important dates.

Parents, this can be an exciting and stressful time for you, too, especially if this is your child's first year of high school. Please do make use of this resource and don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting all of you at Back to School Night.

Stay tuned!
