- Name of sample/specimen (systematic and common)
- Color sketch of the material
- Designation as mineral or rock
- If rock, list mineral(s) typically found in this type of rock
- If mineral, list common rocks in which this mineral is found
- For rocks, identify as igneous extrusive, igneous intrusive, sedimentary or metamorphic
- List any properties of the rock/mineral that make it valuable to humans
